I was talking to a friend of mine online one day. She was telling me a sad story about how her apartment flooded. The first thing that popped into my head was to be a smartass. Then I took it a step farther and drew her a comic to illustrate my point.
Later that day, I had ideas for two more. After the third one, I decide I would try and make a regular thing out of it, and here we are.
All of the comics and the graphics for this page are done using Adobe Illustrator. I have no scanner and my graphics tablet makes me angry, so it's all done using the mouse.
I did the first one that way because it was quick. Afterwards, I decided I liked the style and stuck with it.
I was trying to think of a clever logo design and thought of those little desk calendars. I drew one up and realized I needed something written on it, so I picked a date: Kortnee's birthday.
It's a little self portrait I did for no particular reason using the same style. After I had it drawn, I decided I should be saying something. "Please read my comics," made me laugh.
This site is run on custom code I wrote using CakePHP as a framework. If there's something missing or something that says "Coming soon," it's because I haven't gotten a chance to write the code yet.
I wrote the site using CakePHP because I have a lot of experience with it thanks to writing the code for CandiShoppe Single Stop - An Online Dating Site. Some of the newest code I've added to the site was borrowed from Area50four - Something New in Social Networking, another project I'm involved in.
Every day. Or at least every couple days, catching up with them as I can. I use Bloglines to catch up on most of the sites I read. It makes my life easier. That's why I was sure to include an RSS feed as one of the first features I wrote for this site.
Maybe a little.
Because it fits with the comic. Why not?
When I updated the site in November 2007, I added some a couple things to the code that were less than minimalistic (mostly to make my own life easier) and it almost made me feel dirty. I felt bad making the design any more complicated. On the bright side, I think they improved the overall look.
Mostly, I'm just proving to myself that I can write valid HTML code (XHTML 1.0 Transistional, actually) and reminding myself to keep doing it. And I had some space to fill.
It's Felt Tip Roman by Mark Simonson. I went on a handwriting font kick for some reason back in 2006. I don't even remember why now. I ended up buying that font, which has an illustrious history, and downloading several dozen other handwriting fonts from Font Garden and other places I can't recall.
Sometimes, it's because I'm super busy writing code for other people. (I work too much.) Other times, it's because I don't even have a halfway decent idea. I'm currently trying to renew my efforts on keeping this daily keep the quality up.
Yep. I'm currently working more than full time doing contracted IT work. Most of that is currently software developement.
